Federal relief for employees impacted by floods

Please follow up with the City if this applies to you – if you have had to miss work due to the flooding:

If you have been impacted by the flooding in British Columbia and have been unable to attend work, you may qualify for the flood relief Employment Insurance (EI) benefits that have been announced by the federal government.

If you would like to apply for these benefits, please contact the payroll department (Payroll@burnaby.ca or 604-294-7367) and outline the dates you were impacted. The payroll department may issue a Record of Employment (ROE) so that you may proceed with your claim.

Update for Stewards

CUPE 23 Stewards are now required to use the CUPE Grievance investigation form and checklist when initiating a member complaint or concern. You learned about the “Grievance Fact Sheet” in your Steward training. It walks you through getting all the relevant information so you can best represent our members. Effective and efficient information gathering really helps speed processes up, especially as issues get passed from you to the officers who will handle them. This form will be linked on our Resources page and can also be found on the CUPE.ca website any time – go to Member Resources -> Resources for Stewards.

Information Webinars on Pension Changes

CUPE BC is hosting information webinars for CUPE members on the Plan Partners BC Municipal Pension Plan Redesign changes.

The session will be one hour in length with presentations by CUPE National staff, and will provide members with an overview of key changes followed by a Q&A period. These webinars do not replace the current consultation process being conducted by the Plan Partners, but are to provide CUPE members with further opportunities to learn about the changes. For full details of the Plan Partners MPP Redesign, please  visit mppredesign.ca to ask questions or provide feedback on the changes using the “Ask a Question” feature. These sessions are for general information and members seeking specific advice on their retirement planning should consult directly with a personal financial advisor.
